Celebration with Charles Kao, 2009 Nobel Physics Prize Laureate

On October 6, 2009, Charles Kao, widely regarded as the father of the fiber optics, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the study of the transmission of light in optical fibers and for fiber communication.

On December 30, 2009, Dr. Kao along with his wife and son attended the welcome celebration banquet co-hosted by several well-respected professional associations in Silicon Valley. CINA was honored to be one of them.

Everyone was really excited to share the honor and joy with Kao's family. We all felt proud of him.

40 years after his first groundkreaking discovery, Kao was finally awarded with this greatest prize.

2009 was ended with this memorable moment as the new decade was starting.

P.S. By talking with Dr. Kao briefly, I discovered that Dr. Kao is actually Shanghainess. Soon our coversation turned into Shanghainess. As a native Shanghainess myself, I felt I was somewhat related to Dr. Kao from then on. I am actually somewaht related to the first Chinese Nobel Nobel Physics Prize Laureate Dr. TD Lee, also a Shanghainess, who happens to be my aunt's brother.
